Detoxification... The healing process begins.

Many people who use or abuse substances are not aware that they will need to detoxify before they enter treatment. Some people do know about detoxification, and have either experienced it before, tried it on their own, or are afraid of feeling bad due to withdrawals symptoms. These are roadblocks in someone's recovery and can be eliminated with the appropriate education and care.

The Right Step makes every attempt to make the detoxification process free of pain and discomfort. Our physicians are experts in the field of addiction and use the most current medications, such as Suboxone and Campral, to relieve the uncomfortable symptoms that some people experience due to stopping certain drugs and/or prescription medications.

Each person that enters the TRS facility for detoxification is assured individualized treatment and high quality medical care. Our medical staff understands the importance of working with you, monitoring you and assisting you as an individual because your detox is unique and you may respond differently than someone else's. The detox phase is usually three to five days. Your treatment team will recommend the next level of care; however, depending on how well your response is to the detoxification process, treatment may well begin during this phase by completing workbook assignments, attending groups, and individual sessions.

Ambulatory Detoxification

Our Northline, Beaumont and Park Cities locations provide Ambulatory Detoxification on an outpatient basis in addition to an Intensive Outpatient Program. The Ambulatory Outpatient Detoxification program operates 7-days-a-week. The length of the program ranges from 3 to 10 days based on each client's individual needs.

When a client presents for treatment, the Right Step Counselor completes an assessment and psychosocial history to determine the needs of the client and to insure they meet the criteria for this level of care. Following this, the client meets with the Nurse who completes a medical history which is then reviewed by the Medical Director. The Medical Director reviews the medical history and the completed assessment and psychosocial history in order to determine if the client meets the criteria for Ambulatory Detox. If that is the case, the admission is authorized by the Medical Director.

The Ambulatory Detox Program consists of daily group counseling, daily individual counseling, and medication management. Any medications needed are prescribed and kept on site. Clients are required to contact the office each evening at 9 p.m. to speak with the on-call staff person. Prior to the client completing the ambulatory detox program, arrangements are made with the client for on-going treatment either in an outpatient or residential setting.
