Addiction Treatment for Preoccupation with Drugs or Alcohol – Outpatient Program

During Session Four of Outpatient Treatment at The Right Step, you will be continuing your education of the addiction cycle, including the effects and behaviors involved in drug or alcohol addiction.

Supportive, licensed instructors will help you better understand the individual cycles included in substance abuse addiction.

The first addictive cycle that you will be learning about is the preoccupation cycle.  Preoccupation will be described as a trance or mood state.  When your instructors talk about Preoccupation in the addiction cycle, they will be referring to the thoughts surrounding finding the drug or alcohol preoccupying the mind of the individual suffering from substance abuse addiction.  Preoccupation then creates an internal stimulation or craving for substances previously abused.

Drug Addiction and Alcoholism Cycles

Examples will be provided to help you better identify when you are experiencing the preoccupation cycle of substance abuse addiction.  One such example could be a youth who is preparing to visit with their friends and is thinking about whether or not anyone will have any marijuana.

Through your addictive treatment program at The Right Step, you will come to better understand the ways that the preoccupation addiction cycle involves any thoughts regarding having, using or obtaining drugs or alcohol.

Trance State: Drug and Alcohol Addiction

The “Trance” state of the addiction cycle last for only a few seconds or it may continue for a longer duration. These moments can occur on a regular basis or only occasionally, as well as be mild or extremely intense for the substance abuse addict.

As you will have learned more about addiction through the Sessions in Outpatient Program, you will realize that factors dictating these points include the number of substance abuse years and the level of the addictiveness of the drug.

Professionals at The Right Step will provide you with an opportunity to reflect on these matters, while encouraging you to honestly participate in your addiction treatment sessions to better enable your understanding of how your mind works and what may drive you toward continuous alcohol or drug abuse.
