Addiction Treatment Services: Acceptance in Addiction – Outpatient Program
Engaging in participatory recovery addiction treatment at The Right Step during the eight-week Intensive Outpatient Program includes learning more about the three different types of acceptance that will aid you in your addiction recovery.
These three acceptance types that will be discussed are unconditional self-acceptance, unconditional other-acceptance and unconditional life-acceptance. Each of these types of acceptance is based on three core beliefs.
Unconditional self-acceptance in addiction recovery includes the recognition of being a fallible human being with both good and bad points. You will learn you must realize that flaws are natural and that despite your good and bad points, you are equally as worthy as anyone else, neither more nor less.
The second core belief you will learn about is how in unconditional other-acceptance you must realize that other people will treat you unfairly at times. You cannot force them to treat you fairly, nor are other people any more or less worthy than anyone else we co-exist with.
Unconditional life-acceptance is the third type of acceptance you will be helped to comprehend and includes discussions regarding how life doesn’t always work out the as hoped, that no one is entitled to having life go exactly as planned and the fact that life is not necessarily pleasant, but it is never awful and it is nearly always bearable.
