Addiction Triggers: Roadmap to Recovery
Outpatient addiction treatment at The Right Step will include a series of educational sessions designed to assist you in the process of achieving positive change in your life, while overcoming drug addiction and alcohol addiction.
During this portion of your addiction recovery session plan, you will be learning much more about addiction triggers. You will have already learned that people and associations with certain people can prove to be addiction triggers. You were also provided with information on how objects serve as addiction triggers at times.
Now you will be presented with information about the ways that addiction triggers can coincide with periods of time and become activated by these various time periods. Some examples of this may include experiencing periods of idle time, periods of extended stress, at the end of the work day, when getting paid, during your birthday, as well as other holidays and weekends.
The reality for most drug addicts and alcoholics is that any emotional state, positive or negative, can be a trigger if it has been historically associated with drug abuse or alcohol abuse.
Addiction Triggers: Emotional States
Your group addiction treatment discussions will also include information regarding the ways that emotional states may trigger a relapse into active addiction. Some examples of these emotions that can trigger substance abuse thoughts followed by behaviors are anxiety, fatigue, anger, boredom, frustration, experiencing an adrenaline surge, sexual arousal, sexual deprivation and emotional states wherein you are uncomfortable and do not feel that relief from your discomfort or pain is anywhere near.
