Alcohol and Addiction – Outpatient Program

Outpatient treatment at The Right Step will include progressing through a series of interactive Sessions to help you achieve recovery from substance abuse addiction.  After completing the first two Sessions, you will begin Session Three, where you will be encouraged to participate in group discussions regarding drug and alcohol education, including visual aids to increase your understanding of alcoholism, addiction and the brain disease model.

Session Three will teach you that alcoholism is actually an addiction to the substance ethanol. As you participate in your recovery through these interactive lessons, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the ways to create positive change in your life.

Although the terms alcoholics and addicts are often used separately, all alcoholics are addicts, addicted to alcohol, i.e. ethanol, making these terms interchangeable.

Biology of Addiction and Similarities of Varied Addictions

Proceeding forward in your addiction treatment, you will discover that all addictions, i.e. spending addiction, gambling addiction, food addiction and sex addiction have nearly identical factors involved such as escapism, behavioral traits and similar motivations driving the individual with an addiction.

Pictures and medical graphs will demonstrate the ways that addiction is a brain disease.  Discovering this fact will also lead you to understanding the treatability of addiction and how physical healing will be a part of your recovery.

You will see the effect that substance abuse addiction has on the brain over a prolonged period of time, as well as the effect of abstinence from drugs and alcohol and the speed with which the healing process can occur in the brain.

Moving forward in Session Three of the Outpatient Program at The Right Step, you will learn more details about the widespread health concerns connected with substance abuse addiction and society.
