One of these periods that you will have been learning about by this point in called the “Wall.” You will have a chance to learn about the relapse factors that are often involved in the Wall stage, as well as practical methods for passing through this time.
Because of greater emotional stability after the Wall, it is possible to address significant, and sometimes volatile, underlying issues that were avoided prior to this time. During the process of adjustment and resolution that will have been discussed a bit by this point in your addiction treatment program, the recovering addict or alcoholic begins to appreciate that recovery from an addiction involves much more than not using drugs or alcohol.
Recovery from Drug Abuse and Alcoholism
You will also learn and have a chance to reflect upon the fact that the realization of what recovery actually means can be disturbing to an individual with the disease of addiction and can at time, in and of itself, be a factor in relapse.
Issues that will be discussed that the recovering addict may be experiencing could be relationship problems, a sense of boredom with life, a lack of goals in one’s life, carrying feelings of guilt and shame, issues with career dissatisfaction and underlying psychopathology that may surface or resurface during these times.
