Alcoholism and Drug Addiction Treatment: Substance Abuse Excuses
A great deal of information will be presented to you during Outpatient addiction treatment at The Right Step in order to assist you in preparing to realize long-term, positive change as you learn more about the ways you can be helped to overcome the addiction disease.
In Session Nine of your group addiction treatment, experienced instructors at The Right Step will be discussing the Roadmap for Recovery and included in that informational set will be the many types of addictive thoughts and rationales that are commonly used to justify drug abuse and the drinking of alcohol by the alcoholic.
Some examples of these types of justifying thoughts that will be presented for you to absorb and reflect upon include times when people have said that their car simply headed toward a previous drug or alcohol source, that an individual simply bumped into an old friend and the drug use just kind of happened, or that drugs or alcohol simply appeared in the presence of the drug addict at home, at a party or in a vehicle or any number of other ways.
This set of justifications suggests that drugs and alcohol have come to the recovering addict in some mysterious or inexplicable way. Learning to recognize these thoughts through the guidance provided in your outpatient program of addiction treatment will provide you with an increased opportunity for recognizing these as they arise and preventing substance abuse relapse in the future.
