Compulsive Addictive Behavior - Outpatient Treatment
As you move forward in your addiction treatment at The Right Step through our Outpatient Program, you will increase your awareness of the various cycles of addiction and how these have affected your life.
Attending this eight-week group treatment for addiction includes participating in a series of educational sessions to help you on the path toward achieving positive change. Session Four, includes a more thorough description of the various stages in the addiction cycle.
At this point in your drug or alcohol abuse treatment, you will have already explored the information about the preoccupation cycle, as well as the ritual cycle and will now further discuss compulsive addictive behaviors.
Compulsivity: The Addiction Cycle
Compulsivity simply means to act. Preoccupation precedes compulsivity because it is the process of thinking about the drugs or alcohol, while the compulsive cycle of the addiction disease is the action that an individual takes after experiencing the “Trance” state of preoccupation.
Therefore, you will learn as an example that compulsivity is nothing more than the time it takes for the beer to reach your mouth. The addictive behavior, compulsivity only takes 2 seconds to complete.
After helping you to understand compulsivity in substance abuse addiction, supportive, licensed instructors will then begin to discuss the resulting feelings of despair that typically follow drug or alcohol abuse.

Residential Treatment centers in DFW, Houston and Austin are also provided for recovery from addiction disease, attracting individuals from Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Arizona and other areas of the United States to participate in recovery programs at The Right Step.
