Session Nine of the Outpatient Addiction Treatment program will be discussing the various aspects of the Roadmap for Recovery from an addiction to drugs or alcohol. At this point in the program, you will have been learning a number of reasons why it is dangerous to utilize secondary drugs for recreation or coping or other reasons when recovering from a specific addiction to drugs or alcohol.
Marijuana Amotivational Syndrome
Supportive, licensed instructors will be walking you through a great amount of information and at this point will discuss the topic of Marijuana use as a secondary drug.
You will learn that Marijuana use affects a part of the brain that is responsible for maintaining motivation, so the motivation for continued recovery work may be impaired. It can also interfere with new behaviors in a way that is very similar to pharmacological coping method discussed previously in Session Nine.
Marijuana use may become a factor contributing to an addiction relapse by creating cortical disinhibition. It can be a stimulant craving induction as discussed previously. Using marijuana also conflicts with the 12-Step philosophies that can be so important to maintaining continued sobriety in life.
Using marijuana can also trigger the abstinence violation effect which can undo the hard work and effort you have already put into achieving recovery from an addiction to drugs and alcohol.
