Emotions of the Addict: Addiction Treatment Program – Outpatient Program
Assistance with understanding emotions is provided by experienced, licensed professionals during the eight-week Intensive Outpatient addiction treatment program at The Right Step. As you will learn during your participation in your treatment for substance abuse addiction, emotions, thoughts and behaviors play a key role in the recovery process for the drug addict or alcoholic.
By this part of your addiction treatment program, you will have learned some of the methods involved in generating healthier thoughts and actions to help prevent addiction relapse.
This portion of Session Seven of your group addiction treatment course will include information regarding the ABC’s of emotions. This process of associating the letters with their corresponding words will be useful as an exercise in remembering the role emotions play in your addiction disease.
Disease of Addiction: Understanding Emotions
You will learn to match the letters “A” through “F” with their relative associations during this helpful addiction treatment Session. The letter “A” may be connected to experiencing an “Activating Event.” This may be when something happens in your life that could trigger an emotional response.
For “B” you can connect your belief system to this equation and reflect on how your beliefs often create your emotions. Proceeding forward will be “C” for “Consequences.” These are emotional consequences that you experience as a result of a belief.
“D” through “F” involves the process of disputing beliefs or distancing yourself from a belief, then utilizing an effective philosophy to in turn, experience new feelings as you work diligently in your addiction recovery program in life.
