Preventing Relapse: Addiction Treatment
Supportive, licensed professionals at The Right Step will work with you to help you better understand the various ways to prevent a relapse back into active substance abuse addiction during your eight-weeks spent in Outpatient Addiction Treatment.
You will learn that preventing relapse requires the use of some self-monitoring skills, which will provide warning signals if you begin to move towards addiction relapse. It will also be explained that the underlying issues that exist need to be addressed in a counseling or psychotherapeutic setting.
During your addiction treatment program, you will also learn that ongoing participation in self-help programs and treatment support groups are vitally important in maintaining long-term sobriety.
Relapse Factors in the Adjustment Stage of Addiction Recovery
As you learn more about the adjustment stage of addiction recovery, you will develop an increased comprehension of the possible relapse factors that can be involved and need to be guarded against.
For many during this time period, the use of secondary drugs or alcohol may be initiated and become problematic, leading back to a relapse into using the drug of choice. The structure that may have been established during early recovery to assist in achieving sobriety may be relaxed during this time due to the attitudes and behaviors that commonly occur during the adjustment stage.
It may become more difficult during this stage to accept the reality of the disease of addiction and in turn, the maintenance of the addiction recovery momentum and the individual’s commitment to their recovery process may be weakened.
As you progress in your addiction recovery treatments, you will also learn more about what the six-month syndrome is and how at this adjustment stage of your addiction recovery, an underlying pathology can sometimes emerge.
