Relapse
Treatment - Struggles in Sobriety – Outpatient Program
Relapse treatment for addiction is provided through the Outpatient Program at The Right Step. By this point in Session Six of your addiction treatment program, you will have learned about the first six steps in the relapse process. Moving forward will include group discussions regarding the seventh step, which is where the loss of control in sobriety is recognizable.
Your eight-week recovery treatment program will include the chance to participate in a group discussion lead by supportive, licensed professionals regarding the growing pattern of problems that develop throughout the relapse process.
During this phase, the alcoholic or drug addict may have attempted to forget about the problems developing through methods of distraction discussed previously in Session Six. Attempts to simply put small “band-aids” on large wounds may have been made and in time the realization that new problems are continuing to pop up with seemingly never-ending continuance will bring about feelings of fear and anger.
Losing Control in Sobriety
As things continue to spiral out of control, life becomes one problem after another in an apparently endless sequence of crisis.
During your addiction treatment program at The Right Step, examples will be utilized to illustrate this step of the relapse process such as descriptions made by individuals who have suffered from the disease of alcoholism or addiction like: "I feel like I'm standing chest deep in a swimming pool trying to hold three beach balls underwater at once. I get the first one down, then the second, but as I reach for the third, the first one pops back up again."
You will be provided with the opportunity to reflect upon these experiences and the recognition of being out of control, the fearful and angry feelings that follow, as well as the addiction thought process involved.
