Roadmap for Recovery: Thought Stopping Techniques
By this point in your outpatient addiction recovery treatment program at The Right Step, you will have learned about visualization techniques for stopping thoughts of using drugs and alcohol. You will also have learned about the snapping method, prayer and breathing exercises for relaxation.
Now your instructors will guide you through the process of increasing your understanding of methods for maintaining sobriety through the presentation of additional thought stopping information.
You will learn that calling someone and talking to another person can provide you with the outlet you need for your feelings and even allow you to better hear your own thinking process in order to avoid addiction relapse. You will be encouraged to have phone numbers of supportive people available with you always, so you can use them when you need to.
Thought Stopping Techniques for Addiction Recovery
As you and your group discuss and summarize the thought stopping techniques to assist you in achieving long-term abstinence from drugs or alcohol, you will be reminded that you must learn to recognize drug using thoughts and then follow that recognition by replacing those thoughts with visualization techniques and any of the other thought stopping techniques that you have learn in your addiction treatment program at The Right Step.
