Substance Abuse Addiction: Using Drugs or Alcohol
As you progress through the eight weeks of Outpatient Addiction Treatment presented at The Right Step for individuals who suffer from the disease of addiction, you will have the chance to reflect on the ways that substance abuse addiction, addictive thoughts and addictive behaviors have affected your life up until this point.
Supportive, experienced instructors will guide you through a series of educational sessions to assist you in gaining the tools necessary to combat the dangers involved with justifications and rationales that could lead you back into active drug abuse or alcoholism.
Justifications that are commonly used by those with an addiction disease will often seem to suggest to the addict that certain emotional states are so powerful, or devastating, that using drugs and/or alcohol is actually a legitimate response to counter these emotions and end the suffering, even if only temporarily.
Thoughts of Drug Abuse or Alcoholism
Thought processes that could trip you up in your addiction recovery program may include thinking that life is too boring without drugs and alcohol, or that you need these chemical substances in order to celebrate a happy time, or on the flip side of things, that you need to drink alcohol or use drugs to alleviate feelings of depression.
Feelings of frustration or self-pity might also lead a drug addict or alcoholic to justify using again, but all of these various excuses and addictive thoughts will be discussed in your group addiction treatment program at The Right Step in order to assist you in working toward overcoming such and realizing positive change in your life that is long-term, benefiting both you and your loved ones.
