Relapse: The Eleven Parts of Relapse – Outpatient Program
You will have an opportunity to progress along the path toward positive change in your life via participation in the Outpatient addiction treatment program at The Right Step. This drug and alcohol abuse treatment will include a chance to discover the 11 parts involved in the addiction relapse process.
When you view the many pages of our website, which have been provided to assist you in making an informed choice regarding your involvement in alcohol or drug addiction treatment, you will see an array of information regarding the many experiences leading up to relapsing back into drug abuse and active alcoholism.
This web page is dedicated to providing the overview of the relapse process and what precise parts are involved. The initial stage of relapse is getting stuck in recovery. After becoming stuck, one may continue the relapse progression by utilizing the impaired thinking of denial.
Compulsive Behaviors and Addiction Triggers
The state of denial may then lead to using other compulsions and experiencing a trigger event. Often all of these parts lead to the next part of the progression, which is feeling dysfunction internally and this, in turn, leads to external dysfunction (visible to others) in the life of the substance abuse addict.
External dysfunction can snowball with the loss of control and the intensified use of addictive thinking. The last three parts of the process of relapse include going back to people, places and things, etc. that were a part of the addict’s environment during the heights of active addiction. In the end, the substance abuse addict ends up actually using chemicals and alcohol and losing control over the use of alcohol or drugs in the final stage of the relapse process of addiction.
As you learn about the 11 parts of the process of addiction relapse, you will begin to delve deeper into the meaning of getting stuck in recovery. This will include initially succeeding in quitting substance abuse, but then hitting a problem too difficult to deal with and interrupting the recovery process.
