Understanding Addiction and Progression – Intensive Outpatient

Treatment for addiction is provided at The Right Step in a series of educational sessions during an eight-week, Outpatient treatment program.  Session Three focuses on alcoholism and addiction, while helping participants to better comprehend the brain disease of addiction, as well as how to move toward achieving positive change in their lives.

You will learn more about the progression of the disease of addiction as you attend these treatment sessions a minimum of three days per week on your path toward recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction.

Experienced, licensed professionals will encourage you to participate in your recovery during group discussions that include visual aids.  When discussing the progression of addiction and alcoholism, you will learn more about the process involved after initial use of alcohol or drugs.

While some individuals who use various substances cease using after experiencing minor consequences, others continue to use despite negative consequences and even increase both the quantity and frequency of their substance abuse.

The Substance Abuse Addiction Process

Progressing in Session Three will help you to better comprehend the difference between someone who uses substances with control and quits, verses the individual who loses control of substance abuse and continues, as well as increases their alcohol or drug abuse.

When this continuation occurs, the substance being used becomes the focal point in the life of the addict.  All other aspects of the life of an individual suffering from substance abuse addiction become affected as relationships, employment and all other responsibilities take a back seat to the substance abuse.

Part of your addiction treatment will include learning that one with a substance abuse addiction often has to suffer dire consequences, perhaps even losing everything that was formerly important in their lives, prior to seeking help for addiction to drugs and alcohol.

Moving forward in your treatment for addiction, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the factors involved in creating the increased possibility of acquiring a substance abuse addiction.
