Understanding Addiction: Chemicals in the Brain – Outpatient Program
Help for those seeking a solution for a drug or alcohol problem is available through the Outpatient treatment program at The Right Step. After completing the first two Sessions of this group addiction treatment, you will be increasing your understanding of the addiction cycle, the disease concept of addiction and the ways in which addiction is a brain disease, including how the brain neurotransmitters are affected by substance abuse.
You will learn about the ways that addictive drugs interact with one another and affect the pleasure center of the brain, how the body’s natural endorphins are affected by substance abuse and how the addictive properties of drugs and alcohol generate a dependency upon the opiates of the brain.
The Brain Disease of Addiction
Through interactive discussions and visual aids that include medical graphics for deepening your comprehension of the effects upon the chemicals in the brain, you will be exposed to helpful information regarding alcohol induced beta endorphin levels, the dopamine chemical in the brain and the Reward Deficiency Syndrome.
