Addiction Recovery Program: Hepatitis Risk

At The Right Step, our eight-week Outpatient Treatment Program has been developed to include discussions, exercises and visual aids based on a series of educational sessions to learn from and reflect on the ways that the information connects with your personal experience with an addiction to drugs or an addiction to alcohol.

At this point in the outpatient addiction treatment program, you will be presented with more information regarding the risks involved with Hepatitis and who is actually at risk for contracting this disease.

You will learn that individuals who live in households where they would have regular contact with infected persons are at a higher risk of becoming infected with Hepatitis.

Outpatient Addiction Treatment Information: People with a Higher Risk of Hepatitis

Also, those who have sexual contact with infected persons, people that travel to countries where Hepatitis A is common, men who have sex with men and users of injection and non-injection drugs are all included among the list of individuals who are at a higher risk of contracting Hepatitis A.

With this disease, there is no chronic or long-term infection. And you will also learn in your addiction treatment program that once you have had hepatitis A, you cannot get it again. However, statistics show that about 15% of people infected with HAV will have prolonged or relapsing symptoms over a 6-9 month period.
