Substance Abuse Treatment: Pill Addictions

Treatment for a substance abuse addiction is provided by the professional addiction recovery instructors during the outpatient addiction treatment program at The Right Step where individuals with an addiction disease can receive alcohol rehab and drug rehab assistance.

The outpatient addiction treatment program lasts for an eight week duration and attendance in these group discussion classes will include proceeding through a series of educational sessions where you will be helped to overcome your dependence on alcohol and your dependence on drugs in order to proceed forward along the path toward positive change in your life.

During this particular addiction treatment session we will be discussing Miltown and  Meprobamate, which is often called “Peace in a pill.” This drug was initially marketed as a tranquilizer to relieve stress, tension and “nerves.”

This drug has also been touted as non-addictive, however, contrary to that belief, patients become very addicted and have seizures and because of this result, a new marketing campaign was under way by the pharmaceutical companies.

Addictive Pills and Drug Addiction

We will also be discussing the addictive pill Soma now, which is marketed as a muscle relaxant, but is not really a muscle relaxant. It actually has an unknown mechanism of action.

This addiction treatment program will then delve into a discussion of Benzodiazepines, which are safer than Barbiturates, but they are sedative and additive if mixed with alcohol (ETOH). Librium was the first Benzodiazepine and was even marketed for treatment of Alcoholism. Then came Valium, Xanax, Ativan, Klonipin, Rohypnol and Temazepam.

Sleeping pills will also be a topic that is thoroughly covered during this portion of your addiction treatment course including information about Benzodiazepines (BZDs), which are Dalmane, Restoril and Halcion, as well as Ambien and Lunesta.

And finally, on this page you will find that in your outpatient addiction treatment course, you will be learning about Stimulants Catecholamines, which include Cocaine plus Crack Cocaine, which are cross overs with Opiates. This portion of the addiction treatment will also include learning about MDA and MDMA pills that are addictive and are also called Ecstasy, a cross over with Hallucinogens.

Decongestants such as Sudafed and over-the-counter diet pills will also be discussed by the experienced addiction recovery professionals who will be working closely with you to help you learn practical methods for achieving a healthy state of sobriety in your life for the long-term.
