Jason Powers

Jason Powers, M.D.

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Powers is the chief medical officer of The Right Step and Promises Austin, both members of the Elements Behavioral Health Family. Originally trained and board certified in family medicine, Dr. Powers re-dedicated his career to helping addicts and their families after he personally faced addiction. He is now also board certified in addiction medicine and passionately helps addicted individuals and their families embrace the healing path of recovery. He does not rigidly fit everyone into one mold, respecting that individual differences matter. He combines holistic treatment modalities with traditional therapies when treating his patients.

Dr. “P” was honored with Sierra Tucson’s Compassion Award and recognized as a Top Addiction Doctor in Houston for four years running by H Texas magazine. Dr. Powers is also the author of the comprehensive book about addiction When the Servant Becomes the Master. He is currently president of the Texas Chapter of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and is a local expert for The Partnership for a Drug Free America.

Dr. Powers is married to a beautiful wife and has three loving kids. Besides spending time with his family, he enjoys yoga and camping.

Rachael joined the The Right Step in 2010. Rachael received her bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management from Ball State University in Muncie, IN. She has been in the Human Resources field for 12 years. She has been PHR (Professional in Human Resources) certified since 2010. Rachael is passionate about aligning HR department goals and practices with business goals and objectives. She has an 8 year old daughter who loves sports and being outside.

Jon Perkins, LCSW

Executive Director, The Right Step Hill Country

Jon received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Centre College and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Louisville. He began his career providing direct patient care in a psychiatric hospital setting and later expanded his experience to include partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, the foster care system, residential treatment and private practice. Most recently, Jon served as director of behavioral health in a large non-profit medical system. Jon’s clinical and leadership focus throughout his career has been on the relationship between mental health and substance use disorders and treating individuals who struggle with both issues.

Quinella A. Minix, Ed.D., LPC-S, CEAP

Executive Director, The Right Step Houston

Dr. Minix joined The Right Step in 2016. She is a licensed professional counselor-supervisor, certified employee assistance professional, and board certified coach with over 20 years of experience in healthcare and behavioral health. Dr. Minix has worked in numerous roles throughout her career including employee assistance for oil and gas, construction and transportation corporations, nonprofit organizations, and several hospitals. She received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Saint Leo University, and a master’s degree in counseling and a Doctor of Education in counselor education from Texas Southern University. Dr. Minix is married and enjoys spending time with family and friends. In her spare time, she volunteers with local charities and is a member of the AKA-Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter and National Women of Achievement-Bayou City Chapter.

Donald Hauser, MD

Medical Director

Dr. Hauser has served as medical director for The Right Step – Houston inpatient drug rehab program since 1994. He is also a clinical assistant professor in the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and the department of family medicine at University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He has been in private practice with The Hauser Clinic and Associates since 1987, serving as president since 1993.

Dr. Hauser earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from University of Texas at Austin, and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He served his internal medicine internship, his psychiatry internship, and his psychiatry residency at University of Texas Medical School at Houston and was chief resident in 1986. Dr. Hauser is board certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with a subspecialty board certification in geriatric psychiatry. He is a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of the American Neuropsychiatric Association. Dr. Hauser was inducted into the American College of Psychiatry in 2015. He has experience treating a wide variety of psychiatric disorders in teenagers, adults and geriatric individuals. Dr. Hauser and his wife Melinda have five sons: Ian, Shane, Brett, and twins Aiden and Miles.

Program Coordinator

Colleen joined The Right Step team in 2012 as a program coordinator at our Northwest IOP location. She remained at the Northwest outpatient facility for three years. Colleen joined our Houston residential team in 2015. Prior to working at The Right Step, she worked at a nonprofit as a counselor in the women with children program. She is a licensed chemical dependency counselor and is currently pursuing an additional degree in social work. Her passion lies with helping clients and families recover from the disease of addiction. Colleen also holds the title of soccer mom, Cub Scout mom, and her newest title Texas Longhorn mom.

Christina Torti, PsyD.

Program Coordinator

Dr. Torti joined The Right Step – Hill Country drug rehab team in 2015. She earned a bachelor’s degree in family resources from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, a master’s degree in counseling psychology from National University, and a Doctorate of Psychology from The University of the Rockies’ Colorado School of Professional Psychology. She has been a practicing clinician since 2002 and has been in the customer service industry and mental health field since 1996.

Dr. Torti has worked with clients in forensic settings, inpatient psychiatric facilities and outpatient treatment centers as a psychometrician and clinician helping victims of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault. Her specialty is trauma, and she is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). Dr. Torti helps clients understand trauma and addiction and teaches mindfulness and relapse prevention skills. She was raised in the Hill Country and says The Right Step – Hill Country feels like home.

Admissions Director

Carmen has been working in The Right Step – Hill Country drug rehab’s admission department since the facility opened in 2007. Carmen previously worked as a freelance video engineer for such major networks as Fox and MTV. He is passionate about making sure every potential client has the opportunity to receive the treatment they need to succeed in recovery. When Carmen isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with his children, playing hockey and writing music.

Executive Director

Charles Fry is the Executive Director for The Right Step Dallas/Ft. Worth Region. He has worked in the field of Chemical Dependency since 2002. He began working at Right Step in 2004 and has worked in all departments and in many different capacities for the DFW region. He has been a LCDC since 2009. He is married and has 2 children. When not at the office he spends the majority of his time with his family and the many extra-curricular activities that his children take part in.


Casey Green, MD

Medical Director

Dr. Green earned a Medical Doctorate from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He completed his psychiatry residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. Since then, Dr. Green has worked at Terrell State Hospital, in private practice, and with the Mental Health and Mental Retardation Department of Tarrant County. He served as the Right Step Hill Country Medical Director before joining the DFW Central treatment center in 2011.He is board certified in by the American Board of Psychiatry and the American Board of Addiction Medicine and Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Dr. Green enjoys spending time with his wife and newborn son as well as playing the banjo.

Men’s Program Coordinator

Sharla joined The Right Step team in October 2013 after relocating to the DFW area from Kansas. In Kansas, she worked in community mental health, serving a variety of clients with mental health and substance abuse issues. She enjoys working with people and helping them learn skills to improve their lives. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University and a master’s degree from Friends University. As a Kansas State University alumni, she is an avid college football fan and enjoys the rivalry with Texas teams.


Carrie Chapline, MSW, LCDC

Women’s Program Coordinator

Carrie joined The Right Step team in 2015. She earned a master’s degree in social work from The University of Texas in Arlington and a bachelor’s degree in psychology and substance abuse counseling from The University of North Texas. Carrie has worked in the substance abuse field for 12 years as a licensed chemical dependency counselor. She’s held positions in several areas of the treatment continuum including assessment and admissions, long-term residential treatment and intensive outpatient treatment. Carrie says she has a passion for helping individuals who struggle with addiction develop a healthy and happy future and thrive in their recovery, families, professional life and community. She spends most of her free time with her family and daughter, loves animals, and enjoys painting and crafting.


Jennifer Hearn, MEd, LPC

Adult IOP Coordinator

Jennifer oversees our Dallas / Fort Worth intensive outpatient program, partial hospitalization program and aftercare/alumni program. She earned a master’s degree in counseling and human development from Hardin-Simmons University and is a licensed professional counselor. Prior to joining The Right Step treatment team, Jennifer worked in the nonprofit community mental health field for eight years. During this time, she worked with clients struggling with dual diagnoses including substance use disorders and mental health issues such as depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
