Chief Medical Officer for The Right Step® and Promises® Austin to Participate in Fundraising Rappelling Event Before ASAM Conference

Jason Powers, MD, MAPP, will rappel down the 31-story Hilton Austin to help raise public awareness and funding to end the stigma and suffering of those affected by addiction. Austin, TX (PRWEB) March 17, 2015 – Jason Powers, MD, MAPP, chief medical officer for The Right Step® family of programs and the Promises® Austin addiction treatment center in Texas will join 99 other individuals in rappelling down the side of the 31-story Hilton Austin. The fundraising event will take place Thursday, April 23, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and the proceeds will benefit the organizational initiatives of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). “Rappelling is an activity that involves a certain element of risk,” said Dr. Powers. “In this regard, it’s very similar to certain actions and endeavors that people in recovery choose to take every day. Do we rush in blindly? No, we carefully weigh and balance risk versus potential reward, and make our decisions accordingly.” He continued: “And like much more in life, we often revisit that which may have scared the living daylights out of us, if the balance is just so. I agreed to rappel because it’s for a good cause – to help bring insight into the field of addiction medicine, and also to raise public awareness and funding to help end the stigma and suffering of those affected by the disease of addiction.” The opportunity is open to the first 100 conference attendees who sign up and commit to raising at least $1,000. Participants receive their own fundraising web page to solicit sponsors for the event.
