Welcome To Rooted: The Right Step Alumni Communities

Rooted is a free service for alumni from any Promises family treatment center to attend for life. Alumni programs meet weekly in cities across the country and online through virtual meetings on the Zoom platform, so you can stay connected wherever you live or work. As communities adapted to physical distancing, we adjusted our sails, expanded virtual access, and kept meaningful connection at the center of our mission.

Until further notice, we are welcoming all people in all forms of recovery, including those who did not attend treatment with us, to join any of our virtual recovery meetings. No matter what you are recovering from or what brought you here, we are glad you are with us.

All of our alumni coordinators are Peer Recovery Certified, meaning they are trained to provide recovery support using a unique lens of their own experiences.

Being part of a community of people in recovery makes it easier to maintain your sobriety. Volunteering, learning, and socializing with others who have similar experiences is a crucial part of addiction recovery. For this reason, The Right Step offers an alumni program that ensures clients and families have access to support and resources long after treatment.

Our addiction alumni program is an important step after treatment that helps you practice your new skills. The Right Step alumni program fosters a supportive network with many opportunities for connection, accountability, and sober fun. Alumni programs create structure that can help you navigate recovery and protect your progress.

Alumni activities are available at The Right Step Houston location and throughout Texas, plus online meetings for participants nationwide.

Highlights of our alumni program and alumni activities include:

  • Weekly alumni support meetings
  • 12-step work and other peer support groups
  • Picnics
  • Alumni softball team and other team sports
  • Volunteer activities
  • Dinners
  • Bowling
  • Outdoor activities like fishing, camping, and cookouts
  • Fellowship with others in recovery

Some annual events include Super Bowl gatherings, Thanksgiving dinner, 4th of July fireworks, a Halloween party, a December holiday party, and more. Event details vary by date and city.

Why connection after treatment matters

Finishing an addiction treatment program is only the beginning. Recovery is a daily practice, and staying involved with alumni programs gives you a support network that understands the ups and downs of the recovery journey. When addiction tells you to isolate, the alumni community invites you to connect. If you are feeling overwhelmed, peers can share practical ideas that worked for them. With aftercare:

  • Community reduces relapse risk by increasing accountability and access to supportive relationships.
  • Structure helps you fill the hours that used to revolve around alcohol or drugs with healthy routines.
  • Service gives you a chance to encourage others, which can strengthen your own commitment.

What to expect from Rooted meetings and events

Every meeting is different, and all are designed to be welcoming. You can expect:

  • A peer-led format with alumni coordinators who model hope and practical skills
  • Time to share your story and hear stories from peers
  • Topics like managing cravings, rebuilding relationships, and coping with stress
  • Invitations to volunteer, join a team sport, or participate in a seasonal event

Participants often say the program helps them form friendships, rebuild family trust, and reconnect with their goals for life in recovery. This supportive community includes clients from across Texas, local people from surrounding neighborhoods, and friends who join virtually from around the country.

Staying connected online and statewide

We provide weekly Zoom meetings so you can stay connected between in-person events. Many alumni also keep in touch on Facebook, using private groups and event reminders to continue conversations and plan sober activities. If social media is part of your routine, consider Facebook as one more way to connect with peers and share success, setbacks, and recovery tips in a safe, encouraging space.

Our alumni coordinators and peer leadership

Our alumni coordinators are trained peers who walk alongside you with compassion and structure. They plan events, facilitate meetings, and help connect clients to resources when questions come up. Their lived experience, combined with ongoing training, strengthens our recovery community and supports a culture of accountability, dignity, and hope.

Ways to get involved

Alumni programs thrive when members participate. You can:

  • Volunteer at an event, greet newcomers, or help coordinate a monthly activity
  • Share your story during a meeting to encourage others
  • Invite family to open events to strengthen relationships and support
  • Join a sports team or outdoor outing to build healthy routines
  • Help with raising awareness activities that promote recovery and reduce stigma in your community

Taking part regularly helps you stay connected, and it can make a difference that may save lives. Your example shows students, families, and patients in the broader community that recovery is possible and worth the effort.

Evidence, outcomes, and client stories

We are committed to quality and transparency. You can read real client voices in our testimonials and explore data from our Outcome Study. These resources describe experiences of clients and patients across programs. No program can guarantee exact outcomes, but the consistent themes of connection, commitment, and follow-through reflect why alumni programs matter.

If you are new to The Right Step

If you or a loved one is exploring care, our Addiction Treatment Programs page outlines services and levels of care. An addiction treatment program can help stabilize health, address mental health concerns, and prepare you for aftercare. Alumni programs then extend that support into everyday life so your recovery journey is more sustainable.
