“After attending residential treatment in Wimberley, this was the next logical step. I had met with James once before and he seemed to fit my needs. This program discussed a variety of applicable topics and we had good group discussions.”

The Right Step may be able to help you break free from Xanax addiction. We offer custom Xanax addiction treatment options as well as other addictions and mental health issues. At The Right Step, we’ll create a treatment program that supports your unique recovery.
Xanax is the brand name of an anti-anxiety drug called alprazolam. The drug is categorized as a benzodiazepine, which has a calming effect on the central nervous system. Xanax is prescribed for mental health issues such as anxiety disorder, panic disorder and social anxiety disorder. When taken as prescribed, it helps people with anxiety or panic problems manage daily life.
Using Xanax as a recreational drug typically makes the user feel calm and relaxed after an initial rush of euphoria. However, the drug can have unexpected side effects, especially if taken with alcohol or other drugs. It can also cause confusion, dizziness, fainting and even memory loss.
Most people who take Xanax with a prescription for anxiety do not develop an addiction. Physical dependence means the brain and body become used to the drug. When this happens, the body requires a larger dosage of the drug to create the same effect.
Whether someone is physically dependent or psychologically addicted, there are risks with the long-term use of Xanax. These include insomnia, forgetfulness, reduced muscle coordination and depression.
There are also significant risks associated with Xanax overdose. As mentioned earlier, mixing Xanax with alcohol or opioid drugs increases this risk. These combinations can lead to slowed or even halted breathing. In large enough doses, Xanax alone can cause someone to slip into a coma.
If you need help from a Xanax rehab, The Right Step offers a safe and secure environment for recovery. We treat alcohol and drug addiction, co-occurring disorders and primary mental illnesses.
As a client at The Right Step, you can participate in both group and individual therapy sessions.
Your Xanax addiction treatment plan may vary depending on the kinds of issues you’re facing. It will likely include some or all of the following:
Before you start Xanax addiction treatment, you may need to undergo detox. Here, you will discontinue the use of alcohol and drugs.
Xanax withdrawal is best performed under medical supervision, as the side effects of withdrawal can be severe. The Right Step offers a medical detox program so you can detox without undue discomfort. In medical detox, you will be monitored by our caring medical team. If appropriate, you’ll be given non-addictive medications to help with withdrawal symptoms.
Once you’ve completed your withdrawal, you’re ready to start addiction recovery.
Residential treatment is a round-the-clock program that provides structured support crucial to recovery. In a residential program, solely focus on recovery free from outside distractions. Residential Xanax addiction treatment includes daily therapy, process groups and other activities.
Though the schedule at each of The Right Step’s treatment centers varies, they all offer similar activities. A typical daily schedule might look a bit like the following:
Morning: Start on the right foot with meditation and a healthy breakfast. Move on to group sessions, a guest speaker, or life skills training to round out the morning.
Afternoon: After a nutritious lunch, continue with therapy or another group session. Some days might involve a sober outing, a session at the gym or other leisure activities.
Evening: After dinner, there’s time for 12-step meetings, guest lectures or a movie night. There is then some time for personal reflection before bed.
Residential programs are important for people who need a high level of care. If residential treatment isn’t right for you, then an outpatient program might be a better fit. Outpatient programs are also useful for people who have completed a residential program and want to keep focusing on recovery with more flexibility.
The Right Step offers a partial hospitalization program. Clients spend five days a week at the treatment center. The daily schedule involves similar activities to the residential program. These include therapy and group sessions, along with addiction education and relapse-prevention training.
Intensive outpatient treatment is a similar program with a reduced time commitment. This involves up to 10 hours a week at The Right Step attending therapy and support groups.
Xanax addiction often goes hand-in-hand with other addictions or mental health issues. For instance, someone who’s abusing Xanax may also be susceptible to other forms of substance abuse. Someone with anxiety or depression may also become addicted to Xanax or similar medications as a coping mechanism.
There’s a strong link between addiction and mental health problems. Many drugs’ effects on dopamine production may contribute, also leading to the development of depression.
If you’re abusing other drugs as well as Xanax, or are also struggling with mental illness, we can create a treatment plan that focuses on all the issues you’re facing.
Recovery and support continue after you leave The Right Step. In addition, we offer a two-year aftercare program, with weekly groups, counseling and other resources. There’s also an alumni program that helps you stay in contact with other people in recovery.
