Drug Mules Need a Cooling Breeze

Nothing that comes across the U.S./Mexican border can be bad right?  Wrong.  A tunnel has been discovered near Calexico, California that is being used to smuggle drugs into the U.S.  What tipped our brilliant drug agents off?   How about a bunch of armed men hanging out around a house that housed the tunnel entrance?  The best part of this whole story is the fact that the 150 yard long tunnel is air conditioned, we can’t smuggle drugs and illegal aliens in all this heat can we?  Are they afraid all that cocaine they are smuggling across the border will go bad and make someone sick? The LA Times is reporting that:

The tunnel’s destination appeared to be a residential neighborhood across the border in Calexico. The tunnel appeared to be well financed and expertly constructed. It had a rail-and-cart system, ventilation, lighting and an electric lift to transport items up and down the shaft, authorities said. “What they had constructed was very sophisticated,” said Lauren Mack, a spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, whose agents inspected the tunnel.

Apparently Mexico is in the midst of a drug revolution of sorts.  Whatever the economy might look like to us: credit downturn, a poor housing market, zero car sales, apparently drugs are still a hot commodity.  Hot enough to have armed guards building tunnels so they can bring their unholy load up north.  Thousands of people have died drug related deaths in Mexico this year alone, and the trade to us cannot be helping our crime rates.
